Directions to Lopez Island
Most travelers and visitors to Lopez Island and the San Juan Islands arrive by Washington State Ferries, which originate in Anacortes. The current ferry schedule is listed here.
Ferries are often crowded on the weekends, it is best to arrive at the terminal early to assure yourself a place on the ferry. If you are driving by automobile, from Seattle or Vancouver, take Highway 5 to exit #230 west heading toward Anacortes and the San Juan Islands Ferry. You may also park your car at the designated parking lots and walk by foot onto the ferry. The only problem is, the Lopez Island landing dock, is nowhere near the main village, there isn’t much you can see and do on arrival without transportation. Although, Moped and bicycle rentals are available on the island. The best place to go for bicycle rentals would be Lopez Bicycle Works, on Fisherman Bay Road.
Air transportation is available from San Juan Airlines or Kenmore Air, who have daily flights to Lopez Island and the rest of the San Juans.
Coming by boat is available from a vast number of charters and tours. Private boaters can find moorage at any number of ports and marinas around the island. If you are not sure, or don’t know of any place to dock on, there is year-round moorage available at IMC and the Islander in Fisherman Bay. (Photo of Boat Launch on South End)
Although Lopez now has a great variety of facilities for tourists including inns, resorts, bed and breakfast’s, as well as overnight parks and campgrounds, all of these places are in demand much of the year. Please make reservations well ahead of time.
